BLAKE SHELBURNE

 

Blake was the 2006 leader of the Star Chamber and was an outstanding two way starter for the Viking football program in 2005 and 2006. As a starting free safety on the defensive side of the ball his junior year, Blake recorded 147 defensive points. He was in on 50 tackles, made 7 break-ups and recovered two fumbles and was named Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts against Cathedral High School. He followed up his junior year with an even better senior season in which he recorded 201 total defensive points. He was in on 69 tackles, led the defense with six break ups, recorded one interception and caused and recovered one fumble. In 2006 he was named Defensive Player of the Game for his performance against Clairemont High and was named Special Teams Player of the Game for his efforts against University City. For his career Blake recorded 344 total defensive points. He was in on 119 tackles, had 13 break ups, recovered three fumbles and had one interception and a caused fumble. His career defensive totals also made a mark in the Viking school record book. Blake’s 49 season tackles in 2006 ranks him number nine on the all-time list for defensive backs. And his 80 career tackles rank number ten all-time. His 201 defensive points in 2006 ranks number eight on the all-time list and his 344 career defensive points ranks number nine.   

Blake also made his mark in the Viking record book as a receiver. In his junior season Blake made 19 receptions for 317 yards and scored 5 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 17 times for 58 yards. His 36 total points ranked second on the team and his 19 receptions ranked him 11th on the single season reception record list. Combined with his senior totals Blake finished with 27 career receptions for 418 yards, five touchdowns and a 15.5 yard per reception average. His career receiving mark ranks ninth in the Viking record book. 

Blake was named Second Team All Western League in 2005 and was also voted Wide Receiver of the Year by his teammates. In 2006 he was an Honorable Mention All Western League defensive back and was voted Team Captain. In addition to his on the field honors Blake maintained a 3.08 GPA and was recognized as an Outstanding Scholar-Athlete by the San Diego Union-Tribune in both 2006 and 2007. Blake was also a two-year varsity letterman in baseball and pictures of him can be found in both the 2005 and 2006 action pictures file.
